Guitar Models

Lakestone’s concept is to take traditional designs and include real innovation to produce exceptionally beautiful instruments that play and sound as good as they look.

Each guitar is uniquely hand-made, with materials that are in sympathy with the design, making it possible to use woods that are sometimes a little out of the ordinary.

We offer four base models: the SL (Small Lakestone), OM (Orchestra Model), JM (Jumbo Model) and the LB (Lakestone Bass) all with a wide range of custom options available.

The Lakestone SL

The essence of this design is the shape of a jumbo but with a small body size. We get a big bass response from OM and Jumbos, which we wanted to keep but in a smaller package. Hence the name, 'Small Lakestone'.

We have kept the body as deep as our jumbos to compensate for any bass loss, 105mm depth at neck joint to 125mm depth at the lower bout. Because the of the extra depth, we have included the bevel feature as standard on this model.

The bracing design, although inspired by other designs, is lakestone’s own design named the 'Sturgeon Bracing'.

As on all our models, the slimmer thickness of the neck and low action helps to give a very comfortable and faster play.

This model is quickly becoming our best selling guitar. A great all-round player; suited to both fingerpicking and strumming and with plenty of projection asnd volumn due to the extra depth. Balanced across all the different frequencies, a strong bass response without being boomy.

The Lakestone OM

This model is our take on the popular 'Orchestra Model', with a well balanced tone range and full projection.

It's a smaller bodied guitar but we give it the same depth of a jumbo, 105mm depth at neck joint to 125mm depth at the lower bout. This combination gives a well balanced range of tone and an increase in volume. The OM also offers a greater level of attack, making it especially shine when strumming.

All our guitar models feature our special necks; hand-carved from a 5-piece laminate of mahogany and rosewood, double action truss rod with 2 carbon fibre reinforcements either side, our necks create amazing sustain. We carve to achieve a slimmer thickness of the neck and set up with a low action. This gives a very comfortable and fast play. (It is optional for us to craft thicker and wider necks if requested.)

The bracing design, although inspired by other designs, is lakestone’s own design, named the 'Sturgeon Bracing'.

The Lakestone JM

The Jumbo Model has a body larger in all dimensions. With a wider and longer soundboard, this guitar has incredible resonance and an authoritative low end and singing treble.

The increased size of this model and the extra depth provides a fuller sound and great volume. These guitars are able to full a whole room with rich tone. Again, the bevel feature makes them very comfortable to play despite the extra size.

The Lakestone Bass

Loud acoustic volume, warm bass tone, classic Lakestone sustain and playablity.

When Tony was asked to build an acoustic bass, his reaction wasn't exactly enthusiastic! The reason? Tony has been a bass player for most of his musical life. He dedicated himself to building bespoke electric bass instruments for himself, friends and customers for over 30 years, using some of the finest woods and electronics available. He tried out several acoustic basses on offer but decided they were not for him as they never really seemed to be able to compete with the volume of acoustic guitars and they all had pickup systems to compensate! So why bother?

The driving force of this request was Dafydd from North Wales, who already owned a Lakestone OM model. He wouldn't take no for an answer!

After long discussions, Tony decided he needed to re-design the internal bracing system with three goals in mind:

1. Increase the volume
2. Improve tone
3. Extend the sustain

The choice of materials became critical. American Black Walnut would give the warmth of the bass, coupled with German Spruce that is bright enough for more tone without being too stiff. This combination proved a success. All three objectives were achieved. There is improved acoustic volume with a warmth at the bottom end and a mid-range and top-end growl that is similar to electric basses, but without being unfaithful to a true acoustic sound.

A pickup system was added to give the option of playing this beautiful instrument through a PA. The simple choice of the "K&K Pure Tone" was exactly right: no onboard active pickups here, just lovely acoustic sounding reproduction.

Coupled to this was the ergonomic addition of a bevel to provide comfort when playing a deeper bodied guitar. The neck has a very slimline thickness made possible by the internal addition of carbon fibre, while the width remains 42mm at the nut and 54mm at the 14th fret. With a scale length of 32 inches, it plays like "butter"!

We are so pleased with the results that we are happy to add this guitar model to our growing family of Lakestone Guitars.
